How Can stomach Pain And Food Poisoning Be Treated?

Not sure if I have the flu or food poisoning. a couple days ago, I found some old strawberry jam in our cabinet, dated 2009. I opened it, tried it. It seemed to taste OK. So, I prepared a peanut butter an jam sandwich and had it for lunch. Not too long after eating it, my stomach started to ache. just did not feel well. That was Friday. Was up all evening on Friday with the runs and through up Saturday morning. Not sure if food poisoning or flu. feel better now, but still have the stomach rumbling. your thoughts?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi there, From what you have posted it seems like a case of food poisoning.
1) The most important treatment for food poisoning or any other type of diarrhea is maintaining hydration. So drink lots of fluids, especially electrolyte reach fluids like ORS, coconut water, Broth.
2) For the stomach pain you can take anti-spasmodics like Dicyclomine.
3)If you still have watery diarrhea, an anti motility drug like Loperamide can be used after consulting with your doctor.
Hope this helps. Thank you.
